Elizabeth Loewen Andrews
Q: When did you start playing?
A: I started playing when I was just about 4 years old. My parents hadn't planned on starting me on an instrument until I was 6, and it was going to be cello!
Q: What made you choose your instrument?
A: When I was three, I heard members of the Toronto Symphony play at my nursery school. Apparently I came home that day, and informed my parents that I wanted to play the violin. They made me wait until the next school year, but my interest stuck with me through the summer - and the rest is history!
Q: What is your most memorable HPO experience?
A: I had a blast playing in the What Next Festival -- it was especially wonderful to play chamber music with my colleagues.
Q: What kind of things do you like to do when you’re not playing?
A: I really love to enjoy a rare evening at home -- to have the chance to cook a nice meal with my husband, and enjoy it with a glass of wine. Or curl up with a book, and one of my cats beside me.
Q: Who is your favourite composer to play or listen to?
A: I think I'm going to have to go with Shostakovich to play, and Puccini to listen to.... but ask me again in a month, and I'll probably come up with a different answer!
Q: Favourite book? Movie?
A: This question is WAY too difficult to answer.... I love both reading and movie watching too much to sit down and chose one favourite.
Q: Do you have a secret indulgence?
A: I've been thinking long and hard about this one..... I considered going for all the obvious choices (indulging in a favourite food, shoes, etc) and I don't know if this can even count as an indulgence, but here goes. When I'm at home doing house stuff... I love to crank up opera recordings and sing along. Super nerdy, I know, but I love it!
