The rising sun depicted in Nielsen's Helios Overture is a brilliant start to the season. It is joined by two landmark works by Tchaikovsky and Dvořák: the Violin Concerto performed by Katya Poplyansky, winner of the HPO's Young Performers' Competition - senior division, and the Symphony "From the New World", one of the most popular works in the modern repertoire.

The HPO celebrates youth and local talent with cellist Cameron Crozman, winner of the junior division of the Young Performers' Competition, and the world renowned Hamilton Children's Choir performing Pergolesi's masterpiece, Stabat Mater. The musicians of the HPO shine in Mendelssohn's joyful Italian Symphony, which was composed by the great musical child prodigy in his early twenties.
