The second half of the concert takes a turn to the contemporary, introducing Hamilton audiences to three fascinating new works for orchestra.

If you’re newer to classical music, this concert is the perfect introduction to the many moods and images an orchestra can evoke. Smetana’s vivacious overture sets the scene of a jubilant crowd on carnival day. Gypsy folksongs and classical music meet in Kodaly’s homage to his childhood home. Les préludes is the most popular of Lizst’s symphonic poems, showcasing the orchestra in flowing melodies and triumphant themes. The rustic folk dances and birdsong of Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony evoke a picture of country life in this most infectious orchestral work.

Pre-concert chat at 6:30pm.

“Cannot say enough about this orchestra and Jamie Sommerville. They are treasures!”
