Music for a Gallery
Visually Inspired Works for Piano and String Quintet
Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 7:30pm, Art Gallery of Hamilton

Music and art intersect as the HPO presents contemporary music inspired by visual art.  This concert features local composer Christien Ledroit’s piano quintet performed to a video projection along with other visually inspired Canadian works.  Audience members can enjoy the visual art that acted as inspiration for each piece of music as it is projected onto the wall of the AGH Pavilion.  Come early and gain free entrance to the gallery with your ticket.

New Music for Chamber Orchestra
Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 7:30pm, The Studio Theatre at Hamilton Place

This evening features a world premiere by HPO’s Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richarson-Schulte, as well as work by Canadian composers Jordan Nobles and Norbert Pallej who will be in attendance. 

Over 400 students from across Hamilton have created works of art based on Nobles’ Entropy.  Select works will be displayed at this concert.

See inspiration take form in this FREE event where local artists create new works as Adam Scime composes electroacoustic music in their midst.  This event offers a unique opportunity to see artists create new works in real time.  Audience members are encouraged to walk between the artists and see the works take shape as the music evolves.

Chamber Music for Winds and Brass
Friday, April 19, 2013 at 7:30pm, First Christian Reformed Church

Don’t miss Music Director James Sommerville performing a piece for horn and electronics by Canadian composers including Larry Lake and Jordan Nobles.  This program also features four new works by Westmount Secondary School students, mentored by HPO Composer-in-Residence, Abigail Richardson-Schulte.

Late Night Performance
Featuring John Kameel Farah on piano and electronics
Friday, April 19, 2013 at 10:00pm, First Christian Reformed Church

This late night concert features Canadian virtuoso pianist, composer, and visual artist John Kameel Farah at the piano.  This performance fuses music from the concert hall with an experimental DJ set, mixing free improvisation, electronic dance music, jazz, electroacoustics, Middle Eastern music, and minimalism.

Three fascinating new works for Orchestra
Saturday, April 20 at 7:30pm, Hamilton Place

This concert features the premiere of Composer-in-Residence, Abigail Richardson-Schulte’s new piece, inspired by different elements of Hamilton city life as portrayed by local artists Paul Elia, Christina Sealey, Claudette Losier, and Sylvia Simpson.  Audience members can view these artworks in the lobby of Hamilton Place.  This program also features pianist Lucille Chung performing 20th century works by American composers.
